Aaaaaaaand I am back! With an update for the Fall One Room Challenge – My Big Fat Backyard!
If you’ve been following along, you know that last week was all about seeing just how much stuff I could fit in my car. From a tree to treated lumber to a boyfriend, we almooooost fit it all.
The one thing I couldn’t fit? The gravel. I needed about 4 1/2 tons of gravel to fill this retaining wall up, and that is equal to around 9,000 pounds. 9,000 POUNDS. Rocks are heavy, y’all.
Not to quarry though, I am not taking for granite just how mi-ca(r) rocks. It’s not his fault. Of quartz, I did have to hire someone who’s truck could hold a crater amount of weight.
Ba dum tss.
After laying down some landscaping fabric and finding someone to deliver, we were ready to rock and roll!
I am a part of a Facebook group for handymen in my area, and was able to find someone who was able to deliver the gravel for a really reasonable price. His truck was also able to tilt, which made everything easier because he could just tilt it and drive! This made the gravel have a relatively even spread. No wheelbarrows needed!
Obtaining the gravel was a huge step for this project due to having to coordinate it all and the price. I am so happy it’s done with, because it’s contingency was either going to make or break my ORC!
Hey look, it’s my tree in the back!
The other big part of this project to finalize was the retaining wall. It was already set into place last week, but it hadn’t yet been stabilized.
During Week 1, we dug out where we wanted the lumber to lay. This week, we filled those ditches with paver dust. This helps ensure the lumber is level, and also will help prevent any future erosion from the rain!
Lastly, we locked the lumber into place with nails and, my favorite, LIQUID NAILS!
Reminder of the before:
Now that the big stuff is over – I’m coming for you ORC Week 5! Onward to the planters and the pretty stuff!
